چکیده

We present in this paper our experience in the development of a geographic information system that includes a large database (over seven GB) with information about infrastructure and facilities of the municipalities in the province of A Coruña (northwestern Spain). Three interesting aspects of the whole project are described in some detail due to its intrinsic interest for the development of this kind of systems. These aspects are (1) the design of the data model and the system architecture, which is oriented to support some advanced features such as multiscale active maps, (2) the problem of designing appropriate workflows to populate the database, and (3) the design of a web-based application to exploit the geographic database through a user-friendly interface. keywords Geographic Information System, Multi-scale map, Workflow, GIS Web Service.

Crime Mapping and Analysis

there are often differences in data structure designs, data encoding approaches, data accessing and processing methods for these two types of geographic phenomena. Geographic coverage is a concept for continuous phenomena. Geographic coverage standards defines conceptual schema for coverage and analyze coverage types and components, e. g., [1]. These include characteristics of spatiotemporal do...

A Graph-Center-Based Scheme for Energy-Efficient Data Collection in Wireless Sensor Networks

We consider the problem of sensor data collection in a wireless sensor network (WSN). The geographic deployment of sensors is random, with an irregular network topology. We propose a data collection scheme for the WSN, based on the concept of the center of the graph in graph theory. The purpose of the scheme is to use less power in the process of data collection. Because it is mostly true that ...

Serving cartography raster data in the Internet, a performance study

INTRODUCTION Map servers are applications oriented to show geographic information in a web site. These pieces of software cooperate with other applications as web servers, geographic enabled databases, etc. On the other hand, the evolution of the massive storage of images and compression algorithms allow acceding to huge amounts of geographic raster information faster and more efficient than fe...

Querying Mediated Geographic Data Sources

With the proliferation of geographic data and resources over the Internet, there is an increasing demand for integration services that allow a transparent access to massive repositories of heterogeneous spatial data. Recent initiatives such as Google Earth are likely to encourage other companies or state agencies to publish their (satellite) data over the Internet. To fulfill this demand, we ne...
